Vom Vulkan zur Karibik/ From the volcano to the Caribbean
Hallo ihr Lieben,
nach Santa Elena sind wir mit Bus und Boot in La Fortuna angekommen, einer kleinen Stadt am Rande des Vulkans Arenal. Eigentlich eine super Lage um viele Dinge zu unternehmen. Leider hat mir mein Zahn einen Strich durch die Rechnung gemacht und ich lag mit Schmerzen im Bett... Wir sind gleich zum Zahnarzt und der hat mir die frohe Botschaft verkündet, dass ich WIEDER eine Wurzelbehandlung brauche weil sich wohl irgendwas entzündet hat. Mit Antibiotika und Schmerzmittel bewaffnet ging's dann wieder zurück ins Hostel.
Wir wollten trotzdem zum Rio Celeste, dem Hauptgrund warum wir überhaupt nach La Fortuna gefahren sind. Da es aber auch jeden Tag ordentlich geregnet hat haben wir das dann auch sein lassen. Das besondere am Rio Celeste ist nämlich seine intensive blaue Farbe. Und die verliert er leider bei viel Regen. Wen's interessiert wie das aussieht darf hier klicken./

we left Santa Elena and travelled to the small town of La Fortuna, a trip by bus and a boat through the lake by the Arenal volcano. A rather good place to do all kinds of stuff.
Unfortunately Anja developed pain in one of her teeth and was forced to lay in bed. We went straight to the dentist, who told us that she'd need a root canal AGAIN as something had gotten infected. We got antibiotics and pain killers and returned to the hostel.
We still wanted to go to Rio Celeste, which was the main reason to come to La Fortuna anyway. But, due to the daily rain we had to forgot about that as well. The peculariaty in Rio Celeste is its special blue color, which goes lost after rain showers. To see how the river looks like, click here.
Nach La Fortuna sind wir dann mit dem Mietwagen weiter nach Puerto Viejo, was sich auf der Karibikseite Costa Ricas befindet.
Auf dem Weg dorthin haben wir viiiiiele Bananenplantagen gesehen. Uns ist aufgefallen, dass die Bananenstauden in blaue Säcke eingepackt waren. Nach Recherche im Internet haben wir herausgefunden, dass es sich dabei um mit pestizidgetränkte Säcke handelt, die zur Abwehr des Sigatoka-Pilzes helfen sollen. Wen es auch hier weiter interessiert, hier gibt's mehr dazu./
We got ourselves a rental car in order to get from La Fortuna to the caribbean coastal town of Puerto Viejo.
On the way there was saw looots of banana plantations, and noticed that the banana racemes were packed in blue plastic bags. After some googling, we found out that the bags are filled with pesticides against the Sigatoka fungus.
Unser Ziel war dann Puerto Viejo, einem kleinen Ort, schon fast an der Grenze zu Panama. Unsere Unterkunft liegt allerdings nicht direkt in der Stadt sonder ein bißchen außerhalb, mitten im Dschungel. Und so heisst auch unsere Unterkunft: Jungle Green House. Außer Affen, Tukanen, Schmetterlingen, vielen Insekten und wahrscheinlich noch zig anderen Tieren gibt es hier nicht viel.
Puerto Viejo ist vor allem bei Surfern und Hippies beliebt. Das konnten wir ungefähr alle 500 Meter riechen ;). /
So we arrived to our destination, Puerto Viejo, a small town almost at the border to Panama. Our accommodation is situated outside of the town, in the jungle; therefore the name: Jungle Green House. Outside of monkeys, toucans, butterflies, lots of insects, and probably many other animals, there isn't much here.
Puerto Viejo is well-known especially by surfers and hippies.
We were able to smell that about every 500 meters too ;).
This week, we went to visit the Jaguar Rescue Center, a center for animals with all types of injuries (sometimes due to the humans), and which to some extent are able to be returned to the wild after a while. This we we got a chance to see an anteater, sloths (finally!!!), an ocelot, many snakes, and other animals. The work by the staff there is indeed great.
Other than that, we spent time at the beach and riding bicycle around the area.

Bastimentos sein, die zur Inselgruppe Bocas del Toro gehört./
Tomorrow we go to Panama. We will be spending some days on the island group of Bocas del Toro, on the island of Bastimentos to be exact.

Wir haben uns an einem Tag das "Centro de Rescate Jaguar" (Jaguar Rescue Center) angeschaut. Dort leben Tiere, die verschiedenste Verletzungen (unter anderem durch Menschen zugefügt!) haben, und nach einiger Zeit teilweise wieder in die Wildnis freigelassen werden. So hatten wir die Möglichkeit einen Ameisenbären, einige Faultiere (endlich!!!), einen Ozelot und viele Schlangen und andere Tiere zu sehen. Toll die Arbeit was das Personal dort leistet.
Außerdem haben wir die Tage am Strand und auf dem Rad genossen. Adios Nicaragua - Welcome Back Costa Rica
Hallo ihr Lieben,
seit 2 Tagen sind wir wieder in Costa Rica. Die letzten Tage haben wir in San Juan del Sur an der Westküste Nicaraguas verbracht. Der Ort ist nichts besonderes, aber wir haben uns ganz wohl dort gefühlt. Wir waren ein paar Mal an verschiedenen Stränden, haben uns ein Motorrad geliehen um die Gegend zu erkunden und haben ein bißchen Ruhe genossen./

since 2 days we are back in Costa Rica. We spent the last days in Nicaragua in the Pacific coast town of San Juan del sur. The town is nothing that special, but we felt ourselves quite comfortable there. A couple of times we went to different beaches, rented a motorcycle to explore the area, and enjoyed the tranquility a bit.
Zurück in Costa Rica haben wir 2 Nächte in Santa Elena verbracht. Die Fahrt dorthin hat eeeewig gedauert. Allerdings nur die letzten 40 km - wir haben dafür über 2 Stunden mit dem lokalen Bus gebraucht!!!!
In dem kleinen Ort angekommen mussten wir erstmal unsere Klamotten wechseln, denn wir befanden uns plötzlich auf einer Höhe von 1.600 Metern, und es war für uns ein bißchen frisch (ca. 20° C) ;)
An dem Abend fand zufällig ein Weihnachtsumzug mit anschließendem Feuerwerk statt. Aber so richtig in Weihnachtsstimmung kommen wir einfach nicht wenn man noch im Shirt da sitzt.
Am nächsten Tag sind wir dann in den Cloud Forest (Nebelwald) von Santa Elena gegangen. Der wohl bekanntere Nebelwald ist Monteverde. Wir haben aber gelesen, dass Santa Elena nicht ganz so touristisch überlaufen und sogar günstiger ist, deswegen haben wir uns für diesen entschieden. Leider haben wir nicht viel gesehen, da es ein wenig geregnet hat und die Tiere sich wohl versteckt haben./
Back in Costa Rica, we stayed for two nights in the town of Santa Elena. The bus ride there took ages - just the last 40 km took 2 hours for the bus to climb the steep dirt road.
Arriving to the town, the first thing was to change clothes, as we now found ourselves at a height of 1600 m and the air felt a bit cold (20°C) ;)
That evening there happened to be a Christmas parade in the town, with fireworks at the end. But we don't get the feeling of Christmas much, when you're still wearing just a T-shirt outside.
The next day we went for a hike in the cloud forest in Santa Elena. We still decided to go to there, as it's supposedly not so touristic as the better known Monteverde cloud forest. Also the entrance was cheaper.
Unfortunately we didn't get to see many animals, as it rained and apparently they had hidden themselves among the branches.
