letzten Donnerstag Abend sind wir mit dem Bus nach Medellin gefahren. Die Fahrt hat über 14 Stunden gedauert, und wir sind fast erfroren (trotz Kapuzenpulli und Schal). Aber morgens haben wir's dann endlich geschafft und sind in Medellin angekommen.
Vom ersten Moment an war uns die Stadt sympathisch. Mit der Metro sind wir zu dem Stadtteil, El Poblado, gefahren, in dem wir für die nächste Woche bleiben sollten.
El Poblado ist der Wahnsinn. Wir hatten beide keine Vorstellung von Medellin. Deswegen wussten wir auch nicht wie hip und angesagt die Stadt ist. 20 Jahre nach dem Tod von Pablo Escobar hat sich hier so einiges getan. Und in Poblado hat man nicht das Gefühl, dass man in einer Stadt ist, die zu den gefährlichsten der Welt gehörte.
Es gibt viele kleine Shops, Restaurants, tolle Gebäude und mittlerweile auch einige Touristen.
In Medellin gibt es wahnsinnig viel zu entdecken. Wir haben eine Stadttour gemacht (realcitytours), bei der wir so einiges gelernt haben über Medellin und Kolumbien im Allgemein, waren im Jardin Botanico, haben uns die Ciclovia auf der Avenida Poblado angeschaut (die Straße wird immer Sonntags bis 13 Uhr für den Verkehr gesperrt damit Fußgänger, Radfahrer und Jogger sich hier austoben können). Heute wollen wir noch in den Parque Arvi, der ein bißchen außerhalb der Stadt liegt und mit der Metro und Seilbahn zu erreichen ist.
Und am Donnerstag geht's dann wieder mit dem Bus weiter nach San Gil./

last Thursday night we travelled to the city of Medellin. The bus ride took 14 hours and we almost froze during the night despite the hoodie and scarf. But finally at sunrise next morning we arrived to Medellin.
From the very first moment we felt the city rather pleasant.
We took the metro to the part of the city known as El Poblado, where we would have our accommodation for the next week.
El Poblado is great, and we really didn't have any expectations about Medellin. That's why we didn't know how hip and trendy the city has become. 20 years after the death of drug lord Pablo Escobar, many things have changed. And especially in Poblado you don't get the impression that the city once used to be one of the most dangerous in the world. Tourists roam among the small shops, restaurants, and impressive buildings.
There is a lot to be found in Medellin. We did a walking tour
(realcitytours) where we got to know many things about Medellin and Colombia in general. We also visited Jardin Botanico, took part in the Ciclovia on the Avenida Poblado (the avenue is closed every Sunday until 1 pm to allow joggers, bicyclists, and pedestrians to enjoy car-free space).
Today we will be going to Parque Arvi, a park little bit outside of the city and to where we'll have to take the cable car.
On Thursday we will once again set off, this time towards the countryside town of San Gil.
