Canyon Hopping

Nach der Hitze im Petrified Forest brauchten wir erstmal ein bißchen Abkühlung. Deswegen haben wir uns für 2 Nächte in einem schattigen Pinienwald, im Pinegrove Campground in Flagstaff, eingenistet. 
Und dort haben wir einfach den Tag genossen und uns treiben lassen./

After the heat in the Petrified Forest, we needed a bit of cool air. We decided to head to Flagstaff, and found a nice shaded site at the Pinegrove Campground in Coconino National Forest. There we simply enjoyed the day and relaxed after setting up the tent.

Nach Flagstaff sind wir in den Norden zum Highlight Arizona's gefahren: der Grand Canyon. Allerdings haben wir nur einen kurzen Stop am South Rim gemacht, da wir später hauptsächlich zum North Rim wollten.
Unglaubliche Ausblicke, bei denen wir uns winzig vorkamen, vor allem wenn man bedenkt dass wir vor Millionen Jahre alter Geschichte stehen./

After Flagstaff, we drove north to the highlight of Arizona: the Grand Canyon.
Actually we did just a short stop at the South Rim of Grand Canyon, as we would later want to visit the North Rim and spend more time there.
But still, amazing views, which really made you feel small. Even more amazing when you think how many millions of years old these cliff faces are.

Nach unserem Zwischenstopp am Grand Canyon und einer sehr langen Fahrt durch Wüste (dem Navajo Gebiet - das Gebiet in Arizona, das Sommerzeit hat, anders als der restliche Bundestaat!) sind wir dann in Page angekommen. Unser Ziel war der Lake Powell. Dort haben wir direkt am Wasser am Lone Rock Beach (was sich schon in Utah befindet) übernachtet.

Leider war es in der ersten Nacht richtig stürmisch, so dass ich echt Probleme hatte zu schlafen. Kimi hat es nicht gejuckt ;) 

In den folgenden 2 Tagen haben wir uns den Horseshoe Bend und Antelope Canyon angeschaut./

After our stop at Grand Canyon, and after a long drive through the desert (the Navajo Nation - the region in Arizona with daylight saving time, contrary to the rest of the state!) we arrived in the city of Page by Lake Powell.
There we camped at the Lone Rock Beach (on the side of Utah). Unfortunately the first night was really windy, and Anja wasn't able to sleep that well. Kimi didn't have any problems ;)
During the next two days, we went to sightseeing: the Horseshoe Bend and the Antelope Canyon.

Wo fahren wir als Nächstes hin?/ Where should we go next?

Nach 3 Tagen am Lake Powell sind wir weiter Richtung Norden gefahren und haben auf einem Campingplatz in der Nähe vom Zion Nationalpark übernachtet. Das haben wir irgendwie ein bißchen falsch gemacht, denn am nächsten Morgen sind wir 2 Stunden (mehr oder weniger zurück) zum North Rim vom Grand Canyon gefahren. Und da hätte es natürlich auch Campingplätze gegeben. Jetzt wissen wir das auch ;)
Jedenfalls haben wir den ganzen Tag am Grand Canyon verbracht und sind eine kleine Tour gewandert. 
Es war wirklich wunderschön. Außerdem waren die Temperaturen wesentlich angenehmer als am South Rim und es gab auch viel weniger Touristen/

After 3 days of Lake Powell, we drove further towards the North, and found a good campsite close to the Zion National Park.
We ended up doing it a bit wrong, since we would still want to drive back south to the North Rim of Grand Canyon (2 hours drive). There would've been nice campgrounds there too - now we know! ;)
Anyway, we spent a nice day at the canyon and went hiking for a few hours. We really enjoyed it there, even more due to the comfortable temperatures and smaller amount of tourists.

Von Freitag bis Sonntag waren wir dann im Bryce Canyon in Utah.
Nach ein bisschen Sightseeing mit dem Auto und Aufbau des Zeltes, haben wir am Samstag eine kleine Wanderung durch den Canyon unternommen. 
Während unserer ganzen Reise mit Zelt (also seit Florida) gab es 4 Tage mit Regen. Und 2 davon waren im Bryce Canyon. Aber zum Glück hat der Regen meist gleich wieder nachgelassen und die Sonne kam wieder raus.
Im Bryce Canyon gab es Präriehunde, wir konnten auch welche sehen, aber leider nicht gescheit fotografieren./

On Friday we drove to Bryce Canyon and stayed there until Sunday. After a bit sightseeing by car and pitching the tent, we went hiking on Saturday and explored the canyon.
During our camping trip (after Florida, that is) it has only been raining on 4 days. Two of them, were in Bryce Canyon. But luckily, the rain always stopped after a while and the sun came out soon enough.
There were prairie dogs in the park also, and we even got to see some, but were not able to photograph them properly.

Nach so viel Natur brauchten wir mal wieder ein bißchen Abwechslung, deswegen war unser nächster Stop: 
LAS VEGAS! ;)
