New York, New York

Hallo zusammen,

jetzt sind wir so langsam in New York angekommen.

Am Sonntag waren wir mit Kimis Freund Nick im High Line Park, einer ehemaligen Hochbahntrasse, die nun zu einem Park umgestaltet wurde. Wunderschöne wilde Blumen und Pflanzen wachsen überall am und auf dem Weg. Es lässt sich dort super spazieren und den Tag genießen. /

so now slowly we feel settled in New York.

On Sunday we were together with Nick in the High Line Park, which is a former elevated rail line running on the Lower West Side of Manhattan. Beautiful wild flowers and plants surround the path and make walking there really enjoyable.

Am Ende der High Line gelangt man in den früheren Meatpacking District, der heute Gansevoort Market genannt wird (von Peter Gansevoort gegründet). Hier gab es früher viele Schlachtbetriebe, Nachtclubs und Prostitution.
Heute ist davon nicht mehr viel zu finden. Auf dem Markt gibt es viele Leckereien zu kaufen: von total überteuerten Smoothies, über zuckersüße Macarons bis hin zu mexikanischen Tacos und Bruffins (leider nicht probiert)./

The High Line ends in the old Meatpacking District, called Gansevoort Market nowadays. The region used to have many butcher's shops (as the name suggests), night clubs, and prostitutes - but that's all gone now. Today you'll be able to find various differents foods and snacks at the market; everything from all-too-expensive smoothies, sweet macarons, to mexican tacos, and bruffins (did not try unfortunately).

Am Montag sind wir über die Brooklyn Bridge von Manhattan nach Brooklyn gelaufen, was man auch wirklich bei einem Besuch in NY machen sollte. Erstens ist es kostenlos und zweitens kann man die Skyline von Manhattan bestaunen. Da es am Montag so mega heiß war haben wir uns in Brooklyn ein soooo leckeres Eis in der Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory gegönnt, was die 5 Dollar pro Stück wirklich wert war./

On Monday we walked from Manhattan to Brooklyn over the Brooklyn Bridge, which definitely is something that every NYC visitor should do. First of all, it's free, and secondly you'll get a great view of the Manhattan Skyline. As we enjoyed such a warm weather, we feasted on delicious ice cream cones by the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. Definitely worth the 5 Dollars.

In unserer Straße war für 3 Tage der Hydrant defekt, bis am dritten Tag die ganze Straße geflutet war. / The fire hydrant in our street was defect and leeking, until on Tuesday the whole street was flooded.

Gestern, am Mittwoch sind wir dann mit der U-Bahn bis zur Südspitze gefahren um mit der Fähre nach Staten Island zu kommen. Die kostenlose Fahrt hat 25 Minuten gedauert und man bekommt einen tollen Blick auf die Skyline New Yorks und die Freiheitsstatue.
Wir haben von mehreren Personen gehört, dass es sich nicht lohnt zur Statue selbst eine Fähre zu nehmen. Und da die Staten Island Ferry umsonst ist mussten wir nicht lang überlegen. Und obendrauf gab's noch einen richtigen Regenschauer ;)
Zurück in Manhatten sind wir über die Wall Street zum 9/11 Memorial gelaufen. Die Gedenkstätte ist wirklich sehr schön angelegt um den Opfern zu gedenken.
Wir konnten uns beide absolut nicht vorstellen, wie das für die Menschen gewesen sein muss.

Anschließend waren wir noch das Flatiron Building und den Times Square anschauen. Letzterer war zwar ein Platz, den wir besuchen wollten, aber der nur Show für die vielen Touristen ist. Also sind wir gleich wieder in die U-Bahn "geflüchtet". /

Yesterday, on Wednesday, we took the subway down to the southernmost point of Manhattan, and stepped on to the ferry to Staten Island. The ride takes about 25 minutes and you get a great view of the New York City Skyline and of the Statue of Liberty.
We heard from many, that taking the ferry to the statue itself ain't necessarily worth it, and since the Staten Island Ferry is free, we didn't need to think for long. We even got a cooling rain shower. ;)
Back on Manhattan we walked by Wall Street to the 9/11 Memorial. The memorial is beautiflly laid out. We both found it unreal to stand there thinking about what took place at this exact spot.

Finally we walked up to the Flatiron Building and to Times Square. The latter was indeed something we wanted to see, but which in reality just seemed to be a huge show for the tourists. So we disappared quickly to the subway again.

Heute haben wir ein bißchen für die nächsten Tage geplant, waren laufen und ein paar Lebensmittel einkaufen. 
Der Supermarkt in dem wir immer einkaufen ist einfach nur herrlich. Dort treffen sich alle möglichen Nationalitäten aus der Nachbarschaft. Es wird spanisch gesprochen und man hat das Gefühl, dass manche zum Spaß hier abhängen. Und das Beste ist, dass es so viel frisches Gemüse und Obst zu kaufen gibt. Von manchen wissen wir leider noch nicht was es ist./

We took it a bit easier today and made some plans for the coming days, went for a run, and bought some groceries. The local store is quite nice, and the atmosphere is always very international. You'll hear a lot of Spanish chatter, and get the feeling that some of the people are just hanging around and spending the time there. But the best thing is, that there are so much fresh vegetables and fruits on offer. Sometimes you'll even see products about which you aren't sure what they exactly are, and how to prepare them.
