nach Kolumbien ist unser nächstes Ziel in Südamerika Ecuador. Am Mittwoch letzte Woche sind wir von Medellin über Bogota nach Quito, der Hauptstadt Ecuadors geflogen. Wir wohnen in einem hübschen airbnb Appartment mit einem Pärchen aus Ecuador.
Am Donnerstag waren wir bei einer Stadttour durch die Altstadt Quitos dabei. In Quito ist eigentlich alles gut mit dem Bus zu erreichen, auch wenn alles eine gefühlte Ewigkeit dauert bis man an seinem Ziel angekommen ist. Aber da wir Zeit haben macht uns das nichts aus ;)/

after Colombia our next destination in South America is Ecuador. We flew from Medelling via Bogotá to Quito last week on Wednesday. Now we're staying in a nice airbnb apartment with an ecuadorian couple.
On Thursday we took part in a walking tour through the old city of Quito. The buses take you pretty much anywhere in the city, though it feels like an eternity to actually arrive somewhere. But we have time ;)

| Hier haben wir Morocho getrunken, ein beliebtes Frühstück in Ecuador bestehend aus Mais, Milch, Zimt und Zucker. Schmeckt ein bißchen wie sehr flüßiger Milchreis./ We had some Morocho at the Mercado Central, which is a popular breakfast drink in Ecuador, made of corn, milk, cinnamon, and sugar. Tastes a bit like a very liquid rice pudding. |

Am Freitag waren wir am Äquator. Nach ca. 2 Stunden sind wir an der "Mitad del Mundo" angekommen. Nur hatten wir uns beide irgendwie "mehr" vorgestellt. Für 3 Dollar Eintritt darf man dann auf das Gelände auf dem ein Denkmal (mit Museum) steht und es viele Souvenirshops und Restaurants gibt. Wir wussten, dass der hier dargestellte Äquator nicht der eigentliche ist. Dieser befindet sich ein paar hundert Meter entfernt. Wie wir später herausgefunden haben kann man auch den Ort besuchen. Nur bringt der Bus einen direkt zu dem "alten" Ort. Der "neue" ist in Privatbesitz und wird oft mit organisierten Touren angefahren./
Then on Friday we traveled to the equator. After 2 hours of bus riding we arrived to the "Mitad del Mundo". For 3 dollars you can visit the monument and the souvenir shops and restaurants. We both had expected a bit more to be honest. We knew that the monument here is not really exactly at the real equator. There is another monument a few hundred meters away situated on private land. As we got to know later, we could've visited this one too. But we just stepped out of the local bus which stops at the "bigger" monument. Many private tours bring tourists also to the real equator.

Am Samstag sind wir mit dem Bus in den Norden, nach Otavalo gefahren. Der Ort ist dafür bekannt, dass jeden Samstag ein großer Markt statt findet auf dem man alles mögliche kaufen kann: Schals, Ponchos, Socken, Pullover usw. Natürlich konnte auch ich nicht widerstehen ;)/
On Saturday we took the bus towards the north from Quito, to the town of Otavalo, where they have a well known market taking up almost the whole of the town center for the day. The goods selection includes all kinds of stuff: scarfs, ponchos, socks, sweaters, etc. Anja of course found something to buy ;).

Am Sonntag haben wir nur gefaulenzt. Wir haben noch einen Tag in Quito bevor es wieder weiter Richtung Süden geht. Hoffentlich wird es da wieder ein bißchen wärmer./
On Sunday we just decided to relax. We still have one more day in Quito before we travel towards the south. Hopefully it means also a bit warmer weather.
